Join us at 9am in our church fellowship hall for a time of discussion surrounding a particular element of progressive theology.
We may shift back and forth from a book to a DVD based series, but whatever we are discussing, the conversation always encourages inquisitive dialogue. We are of the mindset that one should “think and let think.” At the same time we all value intellectual growth and greater personal understanding.
Many of us have deconstructed our faith over the years, but this study time represents a continual process of reconstructing what we believe about God and all of creation.
Every Tuesday morning at 10:30am a group of folks meet at the downtown location of Cottonwood Coffee house for, you guessed it, coffee and conversation! The coffee is self explanatory, but the conversation revolves around a current event which has happened either within our country, or around the world. It might involve a societal or political issue, or a certain study or survey which has been recently conducted. We begin by asking some “big” questions surrounding the topic, and then we take turns reading a few verses of scripture which relate to the topic at hand. Each scripture passage is followed by Pastor Mark contextualizing the scripture, and asking a few more questions.
The questions we discuss are not intended to search out right or wrong answers, but to openly and authentically share how our personal experiences and spiritual journeys have guided us toward our personal beliefs on social and spiritual matters.
Each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm we gather in our fellowship hall for food and fellowship. Our time together begins with a potluck meal, followed by a video having typically to do with some aspect of social justice. After the video, we take time to discuss what we have seen and heard. We not only seek to learn something new during this gathering, but to also seek out ways in which we as a church, or as individuals, might be able to change the current dynamic. The goal of this group is to not only “chew” on food, but to “chew” on topics which challenge us to see the world differently, and to act upon it in a new light.
