Each month throughout the year our congregation participates in a
“Cause of the Month.”
This cause may take the form of providing physical labor for a local cause (which is often partnering with a nonprofit organization) or collecting items to assist an organization in carrying out their mission within our community.
In some cases, the cause may involve providing some sort of educational opportunity for the residents of Brookings. In other cases, we may join together alongside others outside of our constituency in an already scheduled event.
But in all cases, we seek to expand the worldview of our minds, while extending our hands in service beyond the walls of our church building.
The cause of the month for March will be leading the first ecumenical Lenten luncheon of 2025 on March 12th. These luncheons will again be held at First Lutheran Church as it has been over the last several years, and they function as fundraiser for the Brookings Ministerial Association. These weekly gatherings on the Wednesdays of the Lenten season are an opportunity for people from various churches and denominations (and people from no church family) to gather and worship together in unity. The luncheon consists of a meal which is served at 11:30, and then a short service which begins at about 12:10, consisting of a prayer, message, and leading the group in two songs. The service should conclude about 12:30.
