Each month throughout the year our congregation participates in a
“Cause of the Month.”
This cause may take the form of providing physical labor for a local cause (which is often partnering with a nonprofit organization) or collecting items to assist an organization in carrying out their mission within our community.
In some cases, the cause may involve providing some sort of educational opportunity for the residents of Brookings. In other cases, we may join together alongside others outside of our constituency in an already scheduled event.
But in all cases, we seek to expand the worldview of our minds, while extending our hands in service beyond the walls of our church building.
Our cause of the month for July will be food insecurity. As such, we will be serving a meal at the Harvest Table on Monday, July 29th.
The Harvest Table is held within the community life center of First United Methodist, and is an ecumenical feeding ministry to those in need.
We will have a signup sheet for volunteers available in worship beforehand, but the details are as follows:
We need around 12 folks to prepare and serve the meal.
We gather to prepare at 4pm and then serve the meal at 5:30pm,
with cleanup to follow.
Please contact the church if you would like to serve alongside us!
